Ninth Grade and Tenth Grade English
English 9 & 10 involves learning how to better draft, revise, collaborate, produce, and publish original documents such as formal essays and research papers, and writing in a writer’s journal and reflecting on personal experiences. Furthermore, you will develop an understanding of how to write fiction following the elements of literature. Students will create different forms of poetry following various techniques and incorporating figurative language.
In this class we will emphasize the relationship between reading, writing, and critical thinking while exploring various texts: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and informational text. Students will make connections and create a better of understanding of the human condition in all its forms.
Collaborating with others is essential. Interpersonal skills will be strengthened as you better learn to work with your peers achieving a common goal(s).

Independent Reading: (10% of your grade) AR is an independent reading program with a computerized comprehension assessment that you are expected to take after you have finished a novel. Books are based on points, you must earn 10 points per marking period. You will be writing in a reader’s notebook. Answering questions and making observation on the book you are reading. You will also be writing a book report per marking period as well as a book share presentation. You must keep a reading log of the books you’ve read and your score(s) on quizzes.
